Session Summary:
Wednesday, Sept 14: Pavan did fairly well this evening. He was quite distracted throughout the entire session, but he still did an excellent job with translating sentences that involved matters of the various media in France as well as of poverty and employment in modern French society. Good job today, Pavan—thanks.
Friday, Sept 16: Pavan and I had a terrific short session today, during which he wanted to discuss some answers he didn't answer correctly on his SAT II French practice exam. It gave us a chance to discuss the difference between the grammatical devices of prepositions (which announce objects) and conjunctions (which announce clauses), to discuss the grammatical concepts of direct statement and indirect statement, and to discuss one of the fundamental characteristics of verbs, voice (to which—and this surprised me—Pavan had not been formally introduced before). I really appreciate Pavan's initiative and desire to do well, and I in particular appreciate his receptiveness to exploring not just the how of what he answered incorrectly, but the why. Thanks so much, Pavan, for your good work this evening.
