- Session Summary:
- Mercedes and I had an absolutely TERRIFIC first session today! After introducing herself to me and allowing me to get to know some about her, Mercedes described a fascinating project she has about creating a series of chapbooks about the deities of the various African mythologies. These chapbooks are the tip of a very big iceberg of a extensive exploration and archive of the complex mythology and religion and culture of the African tradition. Mercedes stated her goal for all this material as "bringing it all together in one place" that, so far, it has been her experience all this diverse material exists here and there, in books and recordings and websites. She wants to bring it all together. Mercedes used the word "legacy" as what she wants this project to come. I asked Mercedes what was it that was *new* that she brought to all this material much of which, granted, others had already explored, and we agreed that her personal journey was her contribution to all of this. I agreed with her and told her I felt, because of her own journey, this material will be highly personalized, which in turn will make it accessible. Thanks so much, Mercedes—it was an honor and privilege to meet you. I'm excited about being a part of this grand project you've started.
