Session Summary:
Kendrick and I had an absolutely SUPERB first session!! It was wonderful meeting this young man, whom it's going to be a really challenge for me to keep challenged!! Don't only did he plow through this material, but he did so while clearly demonstrating mastery of it. After introductions, we jumped right into the present tense of 1st-, 2nd, and 4th-conjugation verbs, which entailed detailed discussions of the five characteristics of verbs, the conjugation of verbs, the "grammatical breakdown" of verbs, and the determination of the conjugation to which any given verb belongs. With Kendrick I was able to delve more deeply into the Latin language than I usually can with most of my students, and I shared with him such concepts as "vowel strength" and "worldview", namely a language is merely the expression of how a people view their world. It was gratifying and wonderful how much Kendrick seemed to be honestly enjoying our work this afternoon, and I can tell already I am going to truly enjoy working with this young man. I also am looking forward to the challenge of keeping *him* challenged. Thanks so much, Kendrick, for your good, hard work this afternoon. I look forward to our next session on Tuesday.
