Session Summary
Tuesday, September 13, 2016
2pm to 3pm EDT
Topics covered:
French
Session Summary:
James and I had an outstanding first session. I like it that he and I are doing this simply for James's own edification, that there is no pressure of grades or parents. That fact lent the session a real aura of ease. It also helped that James is a former student of mine, so not only was I already acquainted with his skills and approach as a student but also he and I already have a rapport. We have agreed we will study French on Tuesdays and Latin on Thursdays, so today we launched right into a good starting point for learning the French language, namely definite articles, which the French use much more than we do in English. James handled the material with ease, and he pronounces French well. There were times, indeed, his command of Spanish impeded his proper pronunciation of French, especially those words which the two languages, having both evolved from Latin, share. Great, great job today, James—I really appreciate your hard, conscientious work today.
