Session Summary:
Ethan and I had an EXCELLENT first session. We started with introductions, then jumped right into our discussion of his current assignment for his online "Communications" course: a research paper/speech that needs to be ten minutes in length. Ethan and I broke down his general topic (the three major American sports—football, baseball, and basketball—the general rules and the origins of each) into a detailed outline. Then Ethan and I began our discussion of research—I stressed to Ethan that research is a skill (like sports, like video games, which he told me is one of his favorite ways to spend his free time), and, as with any skill, a researcher becomes better at that skills with practice, practice, practice (as the old joke about how to get to Carnegie Hall reminds us). I left Ethan with three small "assignments" which he sounded keen to do. Great job today, Ethan! Great to meet you and I look forward to our future sessions.
