Session Summary:
Wow, Erik *really* knows his Latin! Tonight he demonstrated a *strong* grasp of grammar as well as just a strong grasp of Latin in general. The only place he had problem, really, was grammar he had been taught yet. We had a good time tonight, translating the first sentence of his translation exercise, "New Allies, New Attacks". I used the opportunity of our breaking down the grammar of each word in the sentence to conduct grammar mini-lessons with Erik: one in how to determine the conjugation to which a verb belongs, one in how to determine the declension to which a noun belongs, one about the four moods of Latin verbs, and one about the substantive. We also discussed the Etruscans and the Latins and how the Romans conquered both and took over their lands and, in the case of the Latins, their language. Thanks so much, Erik, for your great, hard work tonight—you did a wonderful job!!
