Session Summary:
Dana and I had an EXCELLENT session this afternoon! Dana did an outstanding job on her Prompt #2 essay, which I found to be powerful, insightful, and a real look into her as a thinking, feeling, perceptive, and introspective person. I know Prompt #2 was a challenge for her; that prompt is *meant* to be a challenge. As the author of the prompt stated, it's easy to discuss and extol our successes, but it's much harder to reveal and analyze our failures. After our thorough discussion of her Prompt #2 essay, Dana and I jumped right into the start of our exploration of Prompt #3, which asks Dana to reflect on a time in her life she challenged a belief or idea. I like Prompt #3, because it allows the essay writer to practice the skills of asking questions, probing assumptions, testing ideas, and engaging in thoughtful debate that will prove so imperative to their success in college. I very much look forward to Dana's essay response to Prompt #3. Dana continues to impress me with her growth in her command of English. I am particularly impressed how receptive and open-minded Dana is to my correction of her English. I also appreciate her readiness to ask me questions about why I make the corrections to her grammar and syntax that I do. Excellent work today, Dana—thanks SO much!!
