Dana did absolutely superbly this evening! She arrived at the tutoring session with her first draft of her Prompt #1 essay done. Even though I had told her it was fine for her to not worry about the 650-word maximum, her first draft came right in the ideal 550-650 word range at 581 words. We read the the essay through aloud together, and edited/commented on it as we went. We gleaned five questions the Prompt #1 essay is intended to answer, and we analyzed Dana's essay according to those five questions and discovered she answered them very well, that she did indeed meet the intended goal of the Prompt #1 essay, which is to reveal her identity, to reveal who she is today and how she got that way. Other than the essay's narrative order, which we both agreed is a problem in the first draft, I feel Dana did a *very* good job on her first draft. Between now and our next tutoring session on Wednesday, August 31, Dana will work on the second draft of the Prompt #1 essay, focusing on the narrative order problem, then move on to Prompt #2 if she has time. Thanks so much, Dana, for your terrific work this evening!
