Session Summary:
Dana did absolutely TERRIFIC tonight! She and I had a great first session. After some brief introduction, we jumped right into a long discussion both of the philosophy and of the mechanics/logistics of college essay writing. I then gave Dana a writing prompt such as one with which she might be presented on a college essay, and Dana was open and honest with the fact she was afraid of the task with which I was presenting her, because she found writing in English, especially in such an impromptu way, so difficult and intimidating. I encouraged her to work through that fear and plunge into the task with which I was presenting her, and much to her great credit, Dana indeed did so and produced a fine, short piece of extemporanea which we were then able to use to apply some of that exploration of the philosophy and mechanics we had discussed earlier. We ended the session with the agreement Dana will get back to me once she has looked at my tutoring schedule. She did tell me she would like us to meet twice a week, since it is indeed the summer. Great work tonight, Dana—thanks so much for your hard work.
