Session Summary:
Calvin did absolute terrific today! We continued our translation of Augustus's Res Gestae, which Calvin handled well. I do have a problem that there were two instances of indirect statement, which Calvin tells me his Latin teacher has taught him. It is *very* unfair to ask students to do something you as their teacher haven't taught them to do. That is unfair, unprofessional, and unethical. I feel very strongly about this. I worry how well Calvin will do if Dr. Ranneft chooses this particular excerpt which includes the indirect statement to grade her students on as part of tomorrow's final. I gave Calvin an impromptu, quick-and-dirty lesson in the indirect statement; I just hope that's enough. Very well done today, Calvin—thanks so much.
