Upcoming Session

3pm to 3:30pm EDT
Topics covered:
Session Summary:
August did, well, okay today. Clearly, he was quite distracted, and he didn't seem at all invested in today's session. He had just returned from a fun time in Canada, and I suspect his mind was on his upcoming one-week camp. I was dismayed to discover, when I checked for his understanding, that he had forgotten simple things, of which he had previously demonstrated firm command, such as the information he can glean from a good dictionary entry and such as the Neuter Rule, which he should have long since memorized (I told August, from this point forward I expect him to have the important rule memorized). He also made silly mistakes, such as translating a plural Latin noun as a singular English noun. Also, I had to do a mini-lesson of the typical translations of the Latin cases into English, information I know for a fact August has long since mastered. He was acting as if all of this was new to him. I was also dismayed how quickly he threw in the towel when I tried to challenge him, answering me with, "I don't remember" or "I just don't know that." I recommend August be **strongly** encouraged to do some work with these explanation/exercise sets embedded on his personal tutoring webpage between now and our next session. Obviously, he can't be forced to do so, but it sure would be great if he did. I hope August has a great time next week with the horses at the camp. (Note: I have alerted the VT Director that, though I'm invoicing this session for an hour, August and I actually only met for a half-hour.)
