Session Summary:
Adam and I had an INCREDIBLE session this evening! One word: Wow! Not only did we get a ton of work done (we covered such as subject-verb agreement, noun-adjective agreement, functions of the cases, the mechanics of effective translation: "Don't translate what you *want* Latin to say. Don't translate what you *think* it says. Translate what it *says*) but Adam asked probing, higher-order questions about the *why* of Latin and its behavior as a language (and the thinking and worldview of the Romans who spoke, wrote, and thought it)—clearly Adam is not satisfied with merely the *how* and *what* of the language. A superb quality in a student and a scholar. Adam and I were engaged in a meaty discussion of the relative pliability and flexibility of Latin vs English when his father entered to announce that dinner was on the table. I asked Adam if he felt adequately set up to finish his homework, and he told me he did feel he was. Steve and I agreed on the date and time of the next session (Tuesday, 2/2 @ 7pm CST), and Adam and I called it quits for tonight. Great, great job tonight, Adam!! Thanks so much.
