Session Summary
Wednesday, November 9, 2016
6pm to 7pm EST
Topics covered:
Aaron did REALLY well tonight! We jumped right into the "Practice Sentences" special exercise, and we spent the balance of tonight's hour working on Aaron's previous breakdown of the grammar of each word. I took the opportunities presented by Aaron's having not gotten the grammar quite right to discuss different points of grammar (in particular the "why" a noun or pronoun is in the particular case it's in as opposed to "how" it is in that particular case). Since the particular sentence he and I were discussing was in the indirect statement, I conducted an impromptu mini-lesson on the indirect statement, to which Aaron said he had been briefly exposed sometime back in the annals of his study of the Latin language. I also did a quick-and-dirty mini-lesson on the Latin infinitive. Once we had all the broken-down grammar smoothed out and correct, it was a simple matter of translating the sentence, which Aaron handled with ease, with some guidance from me on how to translate indirect statement into good, smooth English. Thanks SO much, Aaron, for your good, hard work tonight. I'm really glad you're done with the crutches.
